Theft hits hard however small
Having experienced this myself last night, when someone decided to walk up to our front door and steal our solar-powered porch light, I am unable to understand what kind of person thinks it is acceptable to simply help themselves to other people's possessions.
It is not the value of the item stolen, which was a gift from a much-loved aunt, but the selfishness and audacity of the thief to walk up to my front door, and take my, not their, light.

Hide AdI very much doubt that the thief will be reading this excellent community paper, but perhaps their family or neighbours will, and spot the timely addition of a globe-shaped solar light on a stick to their ill-gotten possessions.
If you do, please report them to the police.
It is this type of petty, low-level crime that leads to insular, mistrustful communities, and I for one would love to stamp it out.
