Swedish school leaders visit Handcross Park

Handcross Park School has been visited by 35 Swedish school leaders who came to find out more about the impact the use of Google Chromebooks is having on learning at the School.

All Year 6 to Year 8 pupils at Handcross Park now have the use of their own Chromebook during lessons. Children from Reception to Year 4 also use the Chromebooks in some of their lessons. With the use of Google apps, the children are able to work collaboratively whilst their teacher is able to monitor their projects in real-time. The Chromebooks are also used for research and interactive learning which, as the children were able to explain to the visitors, are bringing a new dimension to lessons.

The Swedish visitors were taking time out from the Better Teaching Through Technology Conference and were all very interested in finding out more about the realities of having the Google Chromebooks in the classroom. “The Chromebook project has now been in place for just over a year,” said Mr Des O’Connor, the Head of IT at Handcross Park. We started with a bank of Chromebooks which could be used in individual classrooms. Now, thanks to the enthusiasm of pupils, staff and parents, we have developed the infrastructure and teaching environments to allow 1:1 Chromebook deployment throughout the school. This is having a very positive impact on the children’s learning.”
