Success for fifth Seed Swap event

There were 12 stalls this year around the central seed swap tables.

We had representatives from Wakehurst and Sussex Wildlife Trust who brought lots to interest us. The local horticultural societies were there in force, Horsham organic gardeners, Horsham in Bloom with Horsham Horticultural Society and of course Southwater Horticultural Society with honey and seeds for sale. We were pleased to have Brinsury College for the first time this year with interesting courses on offer. Carrie Court came with her colourful display of recycled products and a strong message of greener living through recycling.

We had some very tempting things for sale, in addition to the teas and homemade cakes, such as Fincalink, which imports olive oil from small farm producers in Spain and the jam lady with her prize winning local jams and chutneys. We had some new stalls this year including the Green Party with leaflets and information on fracking. Also two new start-up companies, Seed Pod which is an online supplier of seed and timely information, and a new children’s’ nursery , Natural Nurture Nursery based on a biodynamic farm near Horsham. Of course Transition Horsham had a stand showing progress on our community allotment, a display that was later in the library for a week, and we will have a stall in the Carfax on April 5th, so look out for us there plus a few free seeds left over from the seed swap.

People who came to swap seeds were very generous with what they brought and there was good diversity of seed. Thanks to everyone who came, with or without seed, and made it a warm, friendly and interesting event which is becoming an established annual ‘must’ for local gardeners and those wanting to get started.
