Cranleigh Prep School pupils have raised an amazing £17, 415.06 over the course of the academic year, which will make a big difference to the variety of different charities supported by them.

Each individual year group has taken part in a wide array of activities ranging from mufti days, cake sales and Christmas Fair stalls to conker fights, Easter egg tombolas, Pimms stalls and Birthday donations.

On the last Monday of term, we held a Charity Day; every pupil took part in a group activity to raise money for their year group charity:

Form 1 raised £746 for Surrey Young Carers from their sponsored water slides

Form 2 raised £2021 for Born Free from their sponsored swim, which involved swimming 2 widths in the Cranleigh village pool.

Form 3 raised £1067 for Kawama from their sponsored Wimbledon challenge. If a tennis player reaches the Wimbledon final, they will have run an average of 35km, with a total of 70km therefore being run by two finalists. So, Form 3 pupils ran 70km in a big relay style around the athletics track, with a tennis racket and ball as a baton.

Form 4 raised £967.50 for Sports Aid from their sponsored walk to Pitch Hill and back, wearing funny hats. Congratulations to Ruby who won the best hat competition.

Form 5 raised £2400 for Future Hope from their film evening in the Wyatt Hall.

Form 6 raised £2017 from their stalls on Top Pitch Fair, with a further £51 from their mufti day and £96 from George E who has spent the year collecting 20ps in Smartie tubes

This really is a magnificent effort and we will now be working towards our next big charity event, a whole school sponsored walk with the Senior School on Sunday 20th September 2015. This will be in aid of Kawama, our partnership community in Zambia, and help us to raise enough money to set up a bakery franchise. Kawama, a district of Kitwe, is the home of Kawama School, part of the Cranleigh family of schools. Form 3 pupils have been supporting Kawama as their year group charity and next year’s Form 3 will continue to raise money for Kawama.

This social enterprise project, like last year’s Kawama Krafts, will help to provide jobs and skills training for local people when they leave education. There is a choice of walks for Prep School families - the main walk is a 35 km sponsored walk through the beautiful Surrey Hills but if that sounds a little daunting, a shorter 10 km route enables us to join in for the afternoon and the grand finale. Further information and registration details can be found on the attached sponsored walk flyer. There is also a section on the School website: http://www.cranleigh.org/sponsoredwalk2015/, where registration documents, advice, maps and further details are available.
