Living without our only cinema

At a recent planning meeting in Bexhill a councillor expressed concern that we are losing our only cinema.

Ironically, during the meeting I had been constantly reminded of that wonderful film, “Singing in the Rain” in which stars of silent film struggle to come to terms with sound.

“The microphone is in the bush,” screams the director, but the beautiful star fails to cope with the new technology.

Our councillors don’t seem to have grasped it either.

The public of whatever age or degree of hearing loss has the right not only to attend meetings, but to hear what is discussed.

The chamber is fitted with high tech equipment.

I wonder why our councillors don’t want to use it.
