I feel Gazette might be getting priorities wrong

OUCH! Did Mr Smith tread on our editor's toes (Gazette letters, November 6) by pointing out the free publicity given to the Jane Wood empire.

Even C. G. Garner's excellent letter of criticism (letters, November 13) managed to produce a headline including the words "Jane Wood's empire".

"News" seems to have a different definition in our editor's eyes.

Littlehampton lifeboat has been called out 87 times this year (to November 10).

Perhaps he could tell us how many times he considered it newsworthy enough to mention?

Joan O'Rourke, Terminus Place, Littlehampton

Editor's note: as many times, Mrs O'Rourke, as we were given the details by the lifeboat station press officer or the Marine and Coastguard Agency.

We have also run several features on the fund-raising branch's outstanding achievements, the 40th anniversary of the station reopening and other successes of the crew and individual members.

So far, we have had no complaints from the RNLI about our coverage.

NOTE: All letters must include a name and address which can be withheld by request.
