Council leader should intervene so miniature railway does not hit the buffers

LIKE many local people, we were very surprised and disappointed to read that the future of Littlehampton Miniature Railway (LMR) is under threat due to a lengthy, ongoing dispute between Arun District Council and Colin Evans, the present operator, who has run the railway for the past 12 years.

The railway is a very popular attraction for visitors to the town and it certainly helps the trade of other businesses situated in Norfolk Gardens and Mewsbrook Park.

One can only start to imagine the time, effort and hard work which goes into maintaining and running this type of outdoor attraction, which is continually exposed to changeable weather conditions, occasional vandalism, and other considerations.

It is very tough running your own business, particularly in the present economic climate, and you can't help wondering, reading the bland comments of the spokeswoman for Arun District Council, whether she has a clue what it is all about.

Perhaps, before it is too late, it is high time the leader of Arun District Council personally intervened to resolve this dispute, before it gets totally out of control and LMR hits the buffers!
