Further to your article regarding councillor Clare Apel’s unfortunate accident last week see here, I have had two very similar experiences in the last ten days.

At 7.15am on both occasions, wearing a bright pink jacket with a helmet light and front light switched on, I only avoided very nasty accidents because I anticipated that both drivers, exiting Oaklands Way, had no intention of looking to see if any cyclists were approaching from the north.

I had to stop suddenly in the cycle lane to avoid a collision on both occasions.

This roundabout is not fit for cyclists, who should have priority if we are to avoid more accidents with the potential of even more serious injuries.

I do hope Clare is recovering well. I now avoid the roundabout at all costs, adding to journey times... and frustration!
