A great success

I WOULD like to say “well done” to all the organisers of, and participants in, Rustington’s celebrations for the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

I only wish I could have gone to more of the wonderful events. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the Churches Together open air service and the schools concert, and couldn’t get tickets for either of the U3A concerts, which were sold out.

But I was at the Proms concert, where we all had a great time listening and joining in, equipped with flags (who needs the Royal Albert Hall?).

The community arts trail was brilliant. Again, I didn’t get to see all of it, but the “60 interests for 60 years” was certainly inspirational, and many people enjoyed the opportunity to have a go at arts and crafts during the free taster sessions.

The carnival parade and fête were great, as usual.

We know a lot of hard work went into these and many other events, so we and many Rustington residents were disappointed not to see much reported in the Littlehampton Gazette, and we couldn’t understand why there were so many photos of events in Worthing, Southwick and Shoreham instead of our own area.

We are hoping to read and see more about Rustington this week, and would like to thank all involved in making our jubilee celebrations so enjoyable.

Congratulations to the organisers on a great success!

Rustington

Editor’s note: we are sorry we weren’t able to devote more space to the Rustington celebrations, but there were so many events over the four days of the extended holiday weekend it just wasn’t possible. Other areas may also feel they missed out, but the limitations of time, space and staff resources were against us.

By sharing resources with our sister papers – whose readers could see photographs of events from our area as well as their own – we were able to give what we felt was reasonable coverage for each area, and even have a little time off work ourselves!

Hopefully, Rustington readers would have been aware that we gave all of page 55 to a report and five photos of the carnival in last week’s paper.
