LETTER: Deadline is days away for library

The consultation period to comment on the reduced opening hours of our local libraries closes on 3 April.

It is doubtless a done deal (like most council decisions) but we should at least show that we are concerned that, for example, Lewes library will be closed all day Wednesday and only open until 2pm on Mondays.

What a waste to have such a building empty – surely we can come up with useful ideas?

And what about the trained library staff?

Those lucky enough to retain their jobs will become part-time as the library will only be open 33.5 hours.

How are they expected to make up their pay packets and pay their rent?
