It’s the great fayre that puts the Friends in a League of their own

My name is Brett McLean and I am a business leader, entrepreneur and charity worker who was born and bred in the Borough of Hastings and St . Leonards on Sea and this is my opinion.

The past several weeks I have focused on how businesses can support the charitable sector thus helping to serve and support our community.

Last Saturday I attended the League of Friends of the Conquest Hospital summer Fayre alongside the Mayor of Hastings Councillor Bruce Dowling, The Old Town carnival queen Denise Stretton and her Princess Talitha Ford Fisher and Richard Wray one of the Deputy Lieutenants of East Sussex accompanied by hundreds of local residents.

Those attending the event were greeted by a huge array of stands and stalls whilst listening to background music performed live by the Sussex Brass Band.

It is important to remember that the event is not only created to provide entertainment and enjoyment to those attending but provides much needed fundraising opportunities to help pay for new equipment for the Conquest Hospital.

Congratulations must go to the organiser of this event Jayne White and her team of volunteers including Deirdre White and Margaret Williams for without them fundraising for the League of Friends at the Conquest Hospital would be greatly depleted and in a time when the Trust has limited funds available to purchase new and vital equipment it is therefore down to the League of Friends to purchase and donate this life saving equipment to the hospital for the benefit of us all as and when needed.

Secondly in my capacity as an Ambassador for Locate East Sussex I am delighted to take this opportunity to promote the services of this business development organisation that is aimed at helping to support small businesses in and around our Borough helping to provide advice and guidance for businesses starting up and looking for their first commercial property, or those looking to expand thus resulting in the creation of additional employment and service or product provision.

A team of specialist business adviser’s led by the experienced and knowledgeable Director Philip Johnson are on hand to provide advice and support to anyone seeking advice on starting or growing a business.
