Good luck to new councillor

How unnecessary it was for your correspondents Kramer and Weeks to use the election of a new local Councillor for the Old Town as an opportunity to take a political swipe at our MP Amber Rudd.

There was absolutely nothing political about James Bacon being welcomed to his first meeting of the Hastings Old Town Residents’ Association shortly after his election triumph.

James knows he has a very difficult act to follow succeeding the late, great John Hodges but has shown to date a genuine interest and concern for all things Old Town and the HOTRA Management Committee were impressed by his input at our meeting.

Not one mention of politics incidentally.

James told us all that he is related to that unique Old Town character, ‘Biddy the Tubman’ who used to entertain holiday makers in the 1950s and early 1960s by taking young ladies for a spin in his tub out to sea.

That tub can still be seen in the Fishermen’s Museum, Rock-a-Nore Road and who knows we might yet see James giving it a twirl off the harbour wall with or without the Red Flag flying!

Good luck to you James and thank you for being willing to represent us all.
