Engineering work without end

I recently travelled on a Tuesday evening to Charing Cross from Battle to attend a concert in London and wanted to return home on the 10.45pm or 11.56pm service from Charing Cross to Battle.

I was aware there was still ongoing engineering works at night south of Tunbridge Wells so I contacted South Eastern customer services a week beforehand and was told these engineering works were finishing on Monday, May 9, and would not be affected on my return journey to Battle on Tuesday, May 10.

I called again on May 9 to check and was told again my return journey would not be disrupted by having to take a bus from Tunbridge Wells to Battle. That was not the case and I was informed incorrectly by customer services at South Eastern.

In the end I drove to Wadhurst station to go to London and of course there was a bus service on the return journey from Tunbridge Wells and was informed at Wadhurst station that there was no confirmed date for the end of the engineering works.

I was not happy I was totally misinformed by South Eastern customer services and my question was why cannot they do this maintenance after the last train has gone through to Hastings? Any works should have a finishing date and as a customer I was very annoyed

The bus service is very slow and takes considerably longer and I feel yet again that those of us living south of Tunbridge Wells seem to always suffer most. This should be brought to the attention of our MP Huw Merriman as a situation of this occurrence is totally unacceptable and the fact I was given the wrong information a week beforehand and a day before is also totally unacceptable. Yes engineering works is essential, but should be done after the last train has gone through to Hastings. I wonder how long this disruption is going on for and a completion date needs to be agreed.
