Could we get donation boxes?

It is heartening to see that the Observer is now publishing more letters of praise for our '˜pierfect' and prestigious pier, rather than criticism from those who would appear to prefer a charred ruin.

This article contains affiliate links. We may earn a small commission on items purchased through this article, but that does not affect our editorial judgement.

Also, the Observer has enhanced enjoyment of the Pier by showing Ion Castro’s amazing collection of old pier photos and his accompanying historical texts.

So congratulations to your paper for the excellent publicity! However, we hear constantly how funds are urgently needed to further maintain and improve Hastings’ Pier.

Surely the first and most obvious way to raise extra money would be to have donation boxes at each gate?

This poses a security issue, but the creative geniuses who have thought up the delightful and informative pierced steel ‘pictures’, history plaques and the dance steps are surely equal to designing and fixing secure donation points.

I am certain that most visitors will happily drop in coins, if not on the way in, as a voluntary ‘admission charge’, then on the way out, in appreciation of a truly magnificent pier experience.
