We had over a thousand people through our doors during the two days. Having been the children’s hospice for Sussex for over 12 years you would have thought that everyone would have known what we do and offer.

However we had a huge number of visitors who had not heard of Chestnut Tree House before, or had heard of us but had not seen our work.

Some people are scared of the idea of a children’s hospice – they think it is going to be a sad and clinical place, when in reality it is the complete opposite.

While a lot of what we do can be very sad, the days are also full of fun – creating happy memories is what the team at Chestnut Tree House are great at. It was lovely to see our nurses, carers and therapists telling all of our visitors about what they do, helping to break down pre-conceptions and the fear of a hospice.

They are all very proud of what Chestnut Tree House has achieved and rightly so - they are a highly-skilled team, providing excellent and very complex care day after day.

To everyone who visited us during the two Open Days, I hope you will tell your friends, family and colleagues about us. We rely on people spreading the word that we are Sussex’s only children’s hospice.
