The Olympic Torch will be stopping off in Hastings days before the start of next year’s London Olympics.
The icon is making a number of stops along the south coast on its way to the capital but Hastings is the only place trusted to keep the flame burning overnight.
Council bosses are now planning a massive party for residents and the leader of the local authority was over the moon.
Cllr Jeremy Birch said: “This is another piece of good news for Hastings.
“I would like to pay particular tribute to John Hodges and the Hastings Chamber of Commerce who lobbied hard for this; they have recognised the potential of the Olympics from the start.”
For full details of the visit see Friday’s Observer - which will also include information on the big event being planned to mark the occasion.
