AN Olympic medallist visited William Parker Sports College last week.

Excited students had the opportunity to meet hockey player Alex Danson. Alex, a member of Great Britain’s hockey team that won bronze at last summer’s Olympics, visited the school in Parkstone Road to aid the promotion of the Living for Sport programme.

The students got the chance to take part in many team building activities, as well as an opportunity to ask questions to an athlete at the top of her game.

Alex has more than 115 caps for both Great Britain and England and has appeared in four European Nations Cups, two World Cups, two Champions Trophies, three Champions Challenges, one Commonwealth Games plus Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympic games. Teacher Ben Gould said: “This is yet another fantastic opportunity for our students to gain a valuable insight into the commitment and determination required to succeed to the highest level.”

Recently former Paralympian Alastair McKean also visited William Parker. After losing 80 per cent of the function in his right arm, Alastair went on to represent Great Britain in rowing.
