A 75-year-old man from St Leonards has been arrested for allegedly being drunk behind the wheel of a vehicle and in possession of cannabis.

Harry Brown was arrested at 5pm on December 1 in Ledsham Close, St Leonards, after officers stopped his car because they were concerned that he was driving erratically.

Brown, of Willingdon Way, St Leonards, was charged with drink-driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis. He was released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on December 17. The arrest is part of Operation Dragonfly, a campaign being run jointly by Sussex Police and Surrey Police alongside Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, Drive Smart in Surrey and the independent charity Crimestoppers. Road policing officers are on dedicated patrols looking for offenders. Teams will also respond to tip-offs from the public who see someone they know has been drinking getting into a car to drive.
