Normans Bay rail victim locally named as Eastbourne teen

A young man who died after being hit by a train has been locally named.

Devante Mayers was killed after being struck at Normans Bay station on Wednesday (June 24). He was 17.

Flowers were left at the station to pay respects to the young man, and an online fundraiser was launched to raise money for his funeral.

Emergency services were called just after 5am that day following reports of a casualty on the lines.

British Transport Police (BTP) said sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious, BTP said.

A spokesperson said he had been identified as a teenage boy, but would not confirm his identity.
