: NO FEAR ON HOTHEAD GERRY

Gerry Harrison, on the verge of completing a free-transfer from Burnley to Sunderland today, has been labelled as a "hot-head" by one of his former managers

Sunderland boss Peter Reid has revealed that he faces a challenge to bring the best out of utility man Harrison after being warned about his temperament by ex-Everton team-mate Adrian Heath.Heath was manager at Turf Moor during most of Harrisons time at the club and the ex-Goodison striker has told Reid that the defender has a tendency to display a short fuse. But Reid today insisted that he is looking forward to bringing the best out of the 26-year-old."Gerry has a bit of a chequered past," admitted there Sunderland chief. "But that doesnt bother me in the slightest."The lad has been a bit of a hot-head during his career but he has settled down a bit recently."He had a big reputation as a young player and hopefully he can fulfil his potential at Sunderland."Adrian Heath recommended the player to me and he thinks the lad has got a lot of ability."Gerry can play in a number of positions which is very important in football now. Players like Darren Holloway and Darren Williams can do the same and Im sure hell give our squad a big boost."Sunderland reported back for pre-season training today with both left-back Martin Scott and winger Martin Smith back in full training after missing most of last season through injury.New signings Neil Wainwright, Thomas Sorensen, Paul Butler and Harrison were introduced to their new team-mates for the first time.Reid is refusing to rule out further signings before next seasons big kick-off in just over a months time.
