NINFIELD BOWLS CLUB: Ninfield Bowls Club were busy last week, with five matches in total. Three of these were league matches with the results as follows: July 8, Ninfield 61 Sidley Martlets 86, July 11, Ninfield 58 Staplecross 64, July 12, Ninfield 53 Hawkhurst 90. Three of their Ladies attended the Peasmarsh Invitation and won both their matches, but came 4th overall out of a total of 14 teams that entered. Iden (Rye) won but the Ninfield ladies beat Fairlight and Pett so they put up a good fight. The visiting team from Epsom, Surrey, had a lovely day with coffee on arrival and lunch after 9 ends. After lunch, a further 9 ends were played and Ninfield beat them overall. A good day was had by all who played and the weather stayed fine. Ninfield are hoping to visit them for a comeback match in 2016.

HOOE OPEN GROUP: The Hooe Open Group Ladies Club met on the afternoon of Friday, July 10, to hear a fascinating and entertaining talk by the actor and raconteur Jonathan Linsey. He gave the members an overview of the two years he spent in Hollywood, working on two films produced by Walt Disney called the Pirates of the Caribbean, in which he played the part of a Dutchman alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley. He also featured in twenty episodes of The Last of the Summer Wine as Crusher Milburn. Jonathan related the many incidents that occurred when living in and around Los Angeles, due mainly to the differences in our language, like a block of flats being called a condominium and a car bonnet being a hood. Almost 90% of the population of Los Angeles considered themselves actors, right down to the policemen on patrol and if told that you were working on a Disney production their attitude would change to one of admiration and friendliness, in the hope that your success would rub off on them. The next meeting of the club on August 14, which will not be held at Hooe Village Hall but instead at Tesco, Ravenside, gathering at the Customer Service Counter for a conducted tour of the store, including tea. NAGS: A developer had approached the Parish Council requesting a meeting to discuss further development in the village. At the last Parish Council meeting, the council voted to refuse this request as they had previously refused meetings with Rydon Homes and did not feel that other developers should be treated any differently. Both the Parish Council and Ninfield Action Group would encourage residents to attend council meetings for regular updates on development in the village. The next meeting will be September 2, but please feel free to speak to any councillor or contact the parish clerk should you want to know more about what the council are doing.

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY: The Horticultural Society are holding their Summer Show on August 15. Please put the date in your diary and start to plan your entries. Schedules are in the village stores.

FLOWER FESTIVAL: The Ninfield Flower Group’s Flower Festival “On the Box”, is August 29 - 31, 10.30 a.m. - 5 p.m. at Ninfield Memorial Hall. All money raised this year is in aid of the Medical Detection Dogs, Bexhill Dementia Alliance and the Dragonflies project Hastings, with a donation to the Memorial Hall. Entry £2.00 per person. Refreshments, Plants, Raffle, Crafts and other stalls. Do go and enjoy the beautiful arrangements.

DEFIBRILLATORS: In the event of an emergency, they are located at the following locations, 24/7: Hooe: On the front wall of The Red Lion PH. Ninfield: On the wall to the right of the entrance to The Kings Arms.
