April Fool's Day: Hey Nonny No, but no practical jokes here please! I can still remember the trepidation of going to school on April 1st and waiting for the class wag to do something absurd; with their hope of getting everyone's applause and adulation...Not from Me I'm afraid! The tradition of making something out of nothing, creating some untrue extraordinary story for comedic purposes, or just playing a prank is a very long one; starting in Roman times, and notably in 1392 with a reference in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales of the Nun's Priest's tale. Then there's my personal favourite of 1698, when the people of London were tricked by an advertisement to go to the Tower to 'see the lions washed'!.. that appeals to my sense of humour ! But whatever happens, just remember the British tradition that all jokes must be played out by midday... or else the perpetrator becomes the Fool themselves! Fools are no bad thing though, '˜there's no fool like an old fool....' '˜Fools rush in where angels fear to tread?..' and to all those with Birthdays on April 1st...Have a fabulous day, ALL day, cos it's YOUR day!.. and my last quote is from Antony Newley - a much missed friend - from the show I did with him in the West End, '˜Stop the World, I want to get off' ... '˜What kind of Fool am I..?'!!.. answers on a postcard please. and keep it clean.!!

Hooe’s ‘Clean for the Queen’: This Saturday, April 2nd, meet at 9.30am in the Red Lion Car Park and you can join teams of willing volunteers, armed with litter pickers, for a good tidy up round the Village. There are lots of areas around the UK doing this, in line with the National initiative, and I’m sure everywhere will benefit, let’s just hope we can ‘Keep Britain Tidy..’ (showing my age again!) Do fall in to the Red Lion afterwards for well earned pint...or 2!

Ninfield Parish Council: The next meeting is on Thursday 7th April at 7.15pm in the Methodist Hall. The forthcoming AGM along with the Annual Parish Meeting, is on the Agenda, along with updates from the School, Sparke Pavilion rebuild, Queen Celebrations, Traffic and Highways matters. It’s always interesting...sometimes lively.. and often hilarious, Honestly! There will invariably be people who are determined to put the Council down, but these volunteers are doing the best they can, under very trying circumstances sometimes, and endeavouring to make the Village the best place it can be. Please contact the Clerk to the Council by phone on 07725843505 or by email [email protected], or you can look at the website ninfield.webplus.net.Our District Councillor Pam Doodes also has a website for extensive information from Wealden District Council, or she can be contacted on 892329.

The show will start at 3pm, admission is free, and there will be afternoon teas available... I’m sure there won’t be an spare seat at this special event... so get there early!

Ninfield Bowls Club: The season starts in April, and Carole Lawrence will be sending in results throughout the coming months along with details of all their social events. The Club has 7 new members already this year, all from Ninfield, which brings the playing membership to 49; added to the 20 social members. They all meet at 8pm twice a month on a Tuesday at their Pavilion, for darts, whist or beetle drives, or games evenings, and will soon have an Open day to encourage even more people to have a go at this popular game.. these are great events, usually with superb food too!!.... Carole’s Husband Vic has been Captain for the past 3 years and will continue for the coming season, and they both invite everyone to get in touch, go along to meet the members and join a fantastic, much valued, near-century old Club.
