New threads for old prices

Quality clothing at a bargain price was the idea behind the nearly-new sale at St Peter's Community Centre on Saturday.

The event was organised by Jill Andrews who said: "Normally we have the clothes sale at our Christmas Fair in November, but we decided to make it a separate event this year."

The money raised will be put with the proceeds of the Christmas Fair later on and then sent in three directions - to the Church Mission Society, the United Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, and the local recipient will be St Peter and St Paul School which is currently being renovated.

Jill said: "I think we have done very well. We have had lots of people through the door and it has been very successful. The clothes come from members of the congregation, and there has been a lot of new stuff as well as nearly new - it is not jumble. I have just sold a new Jaegar man's suit for 5, and we have all had little bargains - for three or four pounds you get a jacket or a new winter coat, so those have really gone well."

Helping out on children's clothing was Moiken Stuttle, while Brenda Thomas was nearby in charge of the shoes. Avis Tompsett was also assisting with selling clothes, as was Isobel Saunders who had her tape measure ready to ensure sizes were just right.
