THE newly appointed rector of St Leonard’s and St Ethelburga’s is delighted with the warm welcome he has received.
Reverend Peter Mead officially started work in the parish last week after being inducted by the Bishop of Lewes on June 25.
This is his first incumbancy, having previously been an assistant curate in Yeovil, Somerset.
Rev Mead, 49, who has made the move with his wife Linda, said: “We are absolutely thrilled by the number of cards and the welcome we have received.”
An enthusiastic golfer, playing for the Church of England, and now at Sedlescombe Golf Course, and also keen to find good coffee in Hastings and St Leonards, Rev Mead is hoping to use these interests to bond with his parishioners.
He said: “Church should be a welcoming place and accepting of people,” and added: “Come along to St Leonard’s and St Ethelburga’s and I will be delighted to meet you.
“The same goes if anybody fancies a coffee at any time.”
