New group set up to push for Greenway

CAMPAIGNERS calling for a town-wide network of cycle routes and walkways for pedestrians have set up a group to further their cause.

Representatives from Hastings Urban Bikes (HUB) have created the Hastings Greenway Group (HGG).

It will be hosting a conference in the summer, whose purpose will be to inform and encourage statutory bodies and other organisations to join and become ‘stakeholder’ members. There will be workshops, speakers and information available on the day. A date has yet to be announced.

The Observer, together with HUB and Ramblers, launched the Hastings Greenway campaign last April. More than 300 people signed cut-out coupons that appeared in the Observer and more than 230 have signed an online petition on HUB’s website.

Gordon Russell, chairman of HUB and the Greenway group, said: “This project is tremendously exciting.

“It will be the biggest infrastructure development in the borough for many years and be amazing to travel from Ore to the Pebsham Country Park by foot or bicycle along safe and largely traffic-free routes, avoiding clogged roads and often busy pavements.”
