New district commander role for 1066 country

Policing in 1066 country will be led by a new district commander - merging the Hastings and Rother commanders to save money.

Current Hastings commander Chief Inspector Paul Phelps will take on the new position of Hastings and Rother commander as Sussex Police continue to cut costs.

Police have saved more than £50m since 2010 through its modernisation programme Serving Sussex 2015.

Ch Insp Phelps said there will be no cuts to resources and assured those concerns that little will change.

“While I can appreciate there may be concerns I can reassure the public that it will be business as usual, there will be no loss of resources in either area and wards will still have an allocated point of contact,” he said.

“This combining of resources is purely operational, so there are no immediate plans to alter the way the public get in touch with us.

“We will continue to serve and protect the public.”

Rother commander Warren Franklin has been promoted to the rank of temporary superintendent overseeing neighbourhood policing operations and activities across East Sussex.
