New director is appointed to theatre

THE White Rock Theatre has a new director at the helm.

Michael Cross has been appointed to the role at the seafront venue with immediate effect.

Before he came to 1066 Country Mr Cross was artistic director of the Key Theatre in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire for 11 years.

In the role, he was responsible for the programming and managing all aspects of the venue.

He was appointed artistic director having already served as associate director and assistant director at the same theatre.

Mr Cross joined the Key Theatre, having previously been production manager for Michael Rose Ltd after a number of years as an actor and company manager.

During Mr Cross’s career at the Peterborough venue, he also worked as a lecturer in performing arts at a number of colleges and universities.

Commenting on his appointment, Derek Nicholls, chairman of HQ Theatres & Hospitality, which manages the White Rock Theatre, said: “Michael has a deep and passionate understanding of the role of a theatre in the life of its community.

“His knowledge of theatre programming is excellent, and he has shown himself an inspirational leader of people.

“These attributes will be invaluable as he joins HQT&H as venue director of the White Rock Theatre, and we are thrilled to welcome him to the company.”

Speaking of his new appointment, Mr Cross said this week: “I am delighted to be joining HQ Theatres & Hospitality.

“I look forward to becoming part of the fabulous team here in Hastings and working with them over the coming months to maintain and build on the excellent work of the team at the White Rock Theatre.”
