Residents of St Helen’s ward and bus passengers gathered opposite Dordrecht Way to open a new bus stop on Monday (December 7), courtesy of the borough council.

Adrienne Beaton, of Hurst Court, said: “I want to thank Councillor Andrew Batsford for his hard work in making sure the residents who are elderly and need shelter have a new bus stop ready for the winter months. He is a credit to St Helen’s. He has pushed hard on our behalf resulting in some very happy and now sheltered residents.”

Residents gathered on Monday to unwrap their new bus stop with Cllr Batsford and Mrs Beaton snipping the ribbon.

Cllr Batsford said: “This is what being a local councillor is all about, listening and responding to residents and being creative and finding a way to achieve and address their day-to-day needs.

“I want to wish a Merry Christmas to all those who use the bus stop. Thank you to all the officers and our council leader, Cllr Peter Chowney, who backed this project all the way.”
