MICHELHAM PRIORY: We had a lovely day out on Saturday at the Sussex Guild craft fair. What a great setting and a beautiful day with sunshine too. There were naturally some very talented people selling their jewellery, embroidery, pottery etc. and it was very interesting to talk to some of them about their crafts and how they started. Unfortunately their goods were too expensive for us to buy but my wife saw many items she would have liked to buy. I cannot remember ever visiting the house and gardens before, so we took advantage of doing so. I would recommend it with plenty of space for children to run around and have a picnic.

BIG BOOK SALE: Tomorrow, Saturday, in St Anne’s Church 10am to 2pm, car parking for a £1 in County Hall. On August 25 there is a lunch time recital with John Howes on piano, Roger Floyd bass and Lyn Deacon soprano commencing at 1.10pm and last 40 minutes. Refreshments are available before and after the recital with a retiring collection.

NEVILL RECREATION GROUND: I have lived on the Nevill estate all my life and I have never seen so many people using the grounds for play or picnics since the introduction of the play equipment. It is lovely to see.

TRANSPORT: I am so pleased I have never had to rely on public transport to get to work, having been lucky enough to work in Lewes all my life. I feel so sorry for the thousands of people who have paid thousands of pounds on rail tickets and who depend on the railway to get them to work. Whatever happened to the idea that everyone should use public transport to get cars off the road. What a joke. It makes us very thankful for our buses.

CHRIST CHURCH: The well-attended meeting of the Thinktank on August 3 heard an excellent presentation from Dr Tom Crossett about Climate Change. He talked about the two principles formulated at the Paris Conference of December 2015: that emissions of carbon dioxide should be reduced and that the burden should be equitably shared between countries with very different present needs and histories. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the complicated interplay of scientific and political challenges in following up the Conference. Worship on Sunday at 10.30am will include will include Holy Communion and will be led by Rev Dick Field.
