Nearly 3,000 homes and businesses in St Leonards experienced a power cut for an hour on Saturday morning (May 28), with some left waiting for 10 hours.

In the West St Leonards area, 2,937 people were left without electricity after a fault on an underground cable at 9.30am.

UK Power Networks engineers reconnected supplies to the majority of customers, 2,396, by around 10.25am with the remaining 541 restored in stages between 11.15am and 7.40pm.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said the engineers worked ‘as quickly as possible’ to restore the power and apologised.

“We understand how difficult it is being without electricity and would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused,” the spokesman said.

There were concerns a power cut on Friday, May 20, was connected to this but the power company said that was caused by a different underground cable and both faults have been excavated and repaired.
