AN ALBUM of U2 covers by local bands is to be released in time for Christmas in the hope of raising £5,000 for the RNLI.

The Old Town Sound Studios owned by Maureen and David Fuller is to record the 10-track CD, which is to be released on December 1.

They have joined forces with Johnny Malone from Musicians of Hastings for the Lifeboat and 10 local bands to make their CD.

Maureen Fuller said: “Keith Amos Willers Willoughby, a member of well-known local band Ska’d 4 Life, agreed to get on board and help produce the album with our sound engineer Luke Gibson, who has produced numerous albums for other local bands, and Phillip Warrington-Taylor, a local documentary film-maker.”

The album consists of 10 tracks, all covers of hit songs by U2, and features 10 local bands.

These include Ska’d 4 Life, Cushty,1066 Rockitmen, Slam, Atlantic, The Tourle Brothers, The Kid Kapicha, Bulbus, Liffanway and the Magic Dragons, and The Vindickers.

All the musicians involved gave up their time free of charge and the album will be recorded in the Old Town Sound Studios in the Old Brewery, High Street on November 10 and 11. The studio time has also been donated free of charge.

The bands have been rehearsing separately, but will come together over the two days to lay down the tracks.

Hit U2 songs that are to be recorded include With or Without You, Pride (In the Name of Love), New Year’s Day, and Where The Streets Have No Name, and Angel of Harlem.

The launch date of the CD has been announced as December 1.

The album will be on sale for £10 and there will be 500 copies available, potentially raising £5000 for the Hastings RNLI.
