BILL HUMPHREYS: As previously announced, there will be a funeral service for Bill at All Saints Mountfield next Thursday, April 7th, at 11.00 am. Afterwards, following a private family cremation ceremony in Hastings, there will be a celebration of Bill's life at the Village Hall, to which all are invited, and where they will be joined by family members.

Family flowers only please. Donations, if wished, to St Michael’s for whom the family has the deepest admiration for the care and compassion shown to Bill in the latter stages of his illness.

BIG SCREEN FILM CLUB: A final reminder that tomorrow (Saturday April 2nd) brings “What We Did On Our Holiday” to the Mountfield Village Hall Big Screen. This comedy, written and directed by Andy Hamilton and his regular co-writer, Guy Jenkin, stars Billy Connelly, David Tennant and Rosamund Pike. Doors open at 7.30 pm for 8.00, £5.00 per person on the door, all welcome. The Mountfield Club will be open for pre- and post-film drinks and there will be complimentary refreshments available. These film nights are becoming very popular so come early for the best seats (and a pint).

GOOD WISHES: We send our very best wishes to Jackie and Helen, both of this parish, both of whom are going into hospital for running repairs on Wednesday (6th). Like all their friends in the village, we wish them both speedy and comfortable recoveries.

PARISH WEBSITE: Irene Marchant, the indefatigable Clerk of Mountfield Parish Council, is also in charge of the parish website: mountfield.org. Anyone with internet access can sign up for email alerts to all the latest that’s humming wirelessly in the ether. Current postings include recent police reports, minutes of the last Parish Council meeting, news of an exciting walk of a lifetime (see below), latest Big Screen Film Club dates (see above), plus all the latest info on the new sewerage scheme as it emerges, and more. We are not sure what the female of Webmaster is. Webmistress doesn’t quite have the right ring to it. We think… WebDiva!

PETER’S WALKS: These are booking very quickly. The marketing emails only really started being sent out at the beginning of the Easter weekend and, by Easter Monday, nearly two thirds of the announced places had been booked. So the first announcement is of a fourth date, Sunday 15th. The second is that on the first date, April 24th, we will be joined by Charmaine Noël, an ecologist who, amongst other recent projects, was responsible or designing the massive landscape restoration project up at the old mine/RMC site at British Gypsum. Other pundits have been invited to add their expertise to the other walks — fingers crossed and watch this space. Full details of all the walks are available from the parish website (see above) or from Peter direct (see below).

MOUNTFIELD CLUB: Another family quiz night is being arranged for Saturday April 16th with all money raised going to local good causes and charity. There will be a £2.50 entry fee with teams of no more than six please. Please book your place by phoning or texting Steve Smith on 07720 298971. A reminder to all club members that the Club’s AGM is on Monday 4th April at 8.00 pm.

VERY LATE NEWS: On the very day that this column is published (April 1st), the government has finally announced plans for The Mountfield Bypass. This will ensure that the Parish of Mountfield will, officially, be bypassed not only by all traffic but also by all local educational provision and, in the case of ninety per cent of the parish, by all SuperFast broadband access. These services are to be replaced by a new sewerage system. A government spokesman said that it was hoped this new bypass would provide insights into rural life in the Dark Ages.
