More the £40,000 to be spent on Littlehampton youth

SPORT and play are to be given a £42,000 boost, thanks to a lottery grant.

The skate ramp, at Sea Road, Littlehampton, and the basketball court at the Keystone Centre, in Eldon Way, will both be treated to a facelift, starting in the next two weeks.

Three existing ramps at the skate park will be replaced by the end of the month, giving a better layout for boarders, and the court will be given a new tarmac surface, and goals will be installed, so that it can

be used for football as well.

Arun District Council added 3,000 to the 39,000 Big Lottery Fund grant to make the projects, which have come about after consultation with the young people who use the facilities, possible.

Councillor Paul Wotherspoon, cabinet member for the environment,

said: "We are lucky to have secured this funding from the Big Lottery Fund.

"I cannot stress enough how important consultation is in designing the services the council provides and these young people really knew their stuff. I hope they will make good use of their facility."

He added that he hoped the new play facilities would prove popular with young people from across the district, and would give lots of enjoyment for many years to come.
