More than 500 favouring eco-village scheme as opposed to Lido pavilion

MORE than 500 people have signed a petition against the Lido beach pavilion plans, proposing instead an “eco-village” for the site of the old bathing pool in West Marina.

The signatures have been gathered by The Platform, a group of residents local to West Marina, whose alternative proposal includes a natural bathing pool, sea garden, and outdoor gym.

La Verne Preston, of Grosvenor Gardens, will be handing the petition - signed by 534 people - to Hastings Borough Council.

She said: “People would like to see a really sea-oriented scheme there.”

The Platform has already approached developers, hoping to interest them in the scheme, and plan to continue talks in the New Year.

The team behind the proposed Lido beach pavilion has now submitted an application for planning permission, which will be available to view online at the Hastings Borough Council website

l The Lido team are to hold an open meeting at the Marina Fountain pub, Caves Road, St Leonards, at 11am on Saturday, January 7, to update local residents and interested parties on their plans, and discuss any concerns.
