Mermaid helps children’s charity

THE Mermaid Inn at Rye has raised an amazing £1,207 for the National Deaf Children’s Society.

The money came from a concerted fund raising effort over Christmas and the New Year and donations from film makers who use the historic building as a backdrop.

The cause is close to the heart of staff at the Mermaid as co-owner Georgina Kite’s daughter Elizabeth, aged 6, is deaf.

A staff member at the Mermaid commented: “It is something we intend to keep doing. People have been extremely generous and supportive.
