Marathon man raises thousands for charity

Bognor Regis runner Peter Spurrier raised a total of £3,500 for United Response at this year's London Marathon '“all part of a staggering £46.5 million now confirmed raised for charity through the April event.

Marathon spokeswoman Natasha Grainger said: "This brings the total amount raised for charity by runners since the race began back in 1981 to a grand total of 361.5 million.

"The Flora London Marathon is the largest annual fundraising event in the world with no other marathon coming close to the mass appeal as a charity fundraising event.

"Tens of thousands of individuals, many novice runners, take up the marathon challenge in order to raise funds for different charitable causes close to their hearts, 68 per cent of all runners in this year's marathon raised money for charity."

Time is now running out to enter next year's London Marathon which will run on Sunday, April 13.

The ballot entry system is open until Friday, October 19, and applications forms are available from Marathon News, a free magazine which can be picked up from all major sports outlets throughout the UK.
