Man took life following relationship breakdown

A LOVING father tragically took his own life after he could not cope with the break-up of his relationship with his partner, an inquest heard this week.

Gary Adams, 37, of Harold Road, was found hanging in his bedroom by his mother Jean on July 1.

The hearing into his death was held on Wednesday.

It heard that Mr Adams had battled depression since his early 20s and the death of his father when he was six year old had had an impact on him.

Mrs Adams saidher son moved back in with her in April after he and his partner of 11 years, Amber Garioch, separated.

She said: “Gary never spoke to me about his depression. I knew that he was unhappy but never to the extent that he was.

“Amber was the centre of his world.”

Miss Garioch said said she met Mr Adams in February 1999 and their relationship developed.

She said: “Gary was very supportive and looked after me when I had health problems. I gave birth to our son in 2001.”

She said they both tried for another baby last year but she sadly had a miscarriage.

Miss Garioch said: “Gary was very supportive but things went downhill from there. We argued a lot. It was not his fault and I felt he had become more my carer than partner. I ended our relationship and told him I wanted us to be both happy.”

Gemma Townsend, community mental health nurse, said Mr Adams was feeling ‘very low’ and struggled to come to terms with the break-up.

She said: “He was a low risk of suicide as he told me he could never do that because of his son, and the fact that he lost his own father when he was a boy.”

Coroner Alan Craze recorded a verdict of suicide while the balance of the mind was disturbed.
