Man tells of hit-and-run ordeal

A MAN has put his career on hold after he was victim of a hit-and-run.

James Corfe, 19, from Hailsham, was nearly killed on Christmas Eve when a car hit him in Horsebridge.

The car drove off, leaving him lying in Upper Horsebridge Road with his right foot broken.

Mr Corfe, from Hawks Road, had been out celebrating with friends.

He said: 'I was crossing the road and the car just came by.

'I saw the car coming but I do not remember much, it was so quick.

'I fell to the ground but I did not realise I had been properly run over until it had gone by.'

Mr Corfe staggered home in shock and the next day woke up in severe pain.

He spent three hours in Accident and Emergency at Eastbourne District General Hospital on Christmas Day.

Mr Corfe said: 'My right foot was broken quite badly.

'I had an operation and the doctors did something to keep the bones together.

Mr Corfe had just left a job as a general worker at Knockhatch Adventure Park.

He has now delayed starting a new career as a nursery school worker until his foot has healed.

A further operation may be needed.

Police are looking for witnesses who saw the incident on December 24.

The hit-and-run car is thought to be small and green, and driven by two people.
