A man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for rape and seven offences of sexual assault in Hastings.

Kemal Roma, 39, unemployed, of no fixed address, was charged with one count of rape and seven counts of sexual assault.

The offences took place between March 2012 and September 2014.

Roma pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault. He was found guilty in relation to the remaining charges at trial and sentenced at Lewes Crown Court on Friday (March 13).

He will be placed on the sex offenders register for life and will be bound by a sexual offences prevention order for life.

Detective constable Andrew Smith said: “This was a difficult case to progress.

“It took the victims a great deal of courage to come forward and to stand up and be counted against a defendant who is considered to be a manipulative bully.

“A serial calculating sex offender has now been convicted and received appropriate punishment for his disgusting crimes against vulnerable victims.”
