Man attacked by gang in front of family

A MAN was attacked by a gang of youths in front of his family last Sunday (December 23) in St Leonards.

The 28-year-old was in Western Road and seeing a friend off at Warrior Square Railway Station when he was set upon by the teenagers between 9.20pm and 9.35pm.

He was taken by ambulance to the Conquest Hospital and received treatment for two fractured eye sockets along with cuts and bruises. He has since been discharged.

Detective Sergeant Tony Web, from East Sussex CID, said: “This vicious and apparently unprovoked attack, was on a defenceless man accompanied by his family as they saw their friend off for the Christmas period.

“The victim’s wife watched her husband being punched to the ground by the four suspects. I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet come forward, to please do so, your call will be treated in confidence. You can ring 101 quoting serial 1435 of 23/12 or leave an anonymous message with the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111. Officers are continuing with local enquiries and viewing CCTV from the area.”

Four teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and have been bailed until February pending further enquiries.
