“The appearance of London Road as a key gateway entrance to Bexhill is noticeably poor,” the officer’s report says.

“The current development and site allocation plan is out to consultation and subject to the comments received, officers will report back on the resources required and the partners to work with on improving the area.”

Traffic movement and congestion, parking, poor visual appearance, condition of the public realm, poor housing were cited as concerns for the road and the town centre, generally.

“There is a feeling that the overall appearance of Bexhill town centre, particularly London Road, is not well presented and that some members would like to see more enforcement action undertaken in what is now a key gateway to the town,” the officer’s report says.

“Evidence suggests that there is a strong correlation between well-kept attractive localities and the appeal to companies, visitors and residents.

“Since the Combe Valley Way was opened in December, 2015, London Road as become the main thoroughfare into Bexhill town and its visual importance as part of the wider image of the town has never been so high.

“Improving the visual condition of London Road, working with other agencies, is therefore increasingly important.”
