Mais House craft event

RESIDENTS of Mais House Retirement Home in London Road, proudly displayed a range of their colourful craft work on Thursday.

The residents, many of whom regularly join in the weekly arts and crafts day provided by tutor Sally Young, clearly enjoy the opportunity to express their artistic talents, and resident Hilary Newman said: "It's something I've been wanting to do for a long, long time and I enjoy all of it very much indeed."

The craft day was the idea of activities organiser Alan Bearne and he said it's proved to be a great success, with residents of all ages and abilities, as they have the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of crafts including weaving, sewing, glass painting, making cards, mosaics and wall hangings.

He said: "We have residents aged between seventy and ninety nine years; a lot of them are amazed at what they can do. It's a nice, creative way of stimulating them and it's a lot of fun."

He added: "They are rewarded by having their work displayed around the home to be admired by visitors."
