Magistrates’ Court round-up

The following are court results for the Observer area from Hastings Magistrates’ Court from October 14 to October 15.

October 14:

Sarah Kite (aged 32), from The Close, Rye, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and driving with no insurance. The offence took place on Rye High Street on March 11. The court made a community order with a requirement of 40 days unpaid work.

October 15:

George Holdt (aged 40), of Marley Lane, Battle, pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagon Transporter vehicle at Station Approach, Battle, on October 1 while disqualified. He also pleaded guilty to driving without insurance. He was fined £750 and disqualified for eight months.

John Larkin (aged 28), of Salisbury Road, St Leonards, was sent to prison for 14 weeks after pleading guilty to ten offences of shoplifting and one of assault by beating. The offences took place between April and June this year and thefts included bottles of Jack Daniels, from Asda, worth £356; men’s scents from Debenhams worth £189 and handbags worth £344.97, from TK Maxx. 

Kelvin Giscombe (aged 45), of Cambridge Gardens, Hastings, was sentenced to 42 weeks in prison after being found guilty of three charges of assault by beating and causing damage to a mobile phone. He was also found guilty of having two lock-knives in a public place and being in possession of cannabis and a Class A drug. He had pleaded not guilty to all the offences. He admitted being in breach of a suspended sentence, made by a court in January for battery. The court said the reason for the sentence was that it involved three cases of domestic violence and was the fourth conviction for having a weapon in public.

Terence Kelly (aged 47) of St Thomas Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall car on Silchester Road, St Leonards, on June 6, while having cannabis in his blood, which exceeded the specified limit. He was banned from driving for a year and given a 12 months conditional discharge.

Jade Williams (aged 19), of Egremont Place, Hastings, pleaded guilty to assisting in the disposal of stolen goods in February. The court made a community order with 40 hours unpaid work.
