Magistrates’ Court round-up

October 5:

James Goobie (aged 35), of Denham Close, St Leonards, was sent to prison for five weeks after pleading guilty to stealing cheeses worth £80 from the One Stop store in St Leonards on June 4. He also admitted stealing bacon and washing products worth £159.42 from the same shop on June 10. Magistrates said the reason for the sentence was because of previous convictions and that the thefts were committed while he was on a community order.

October 6:

Paul Hadley (aged 46), of Pevensey Road, St Leonards, pleaded guilty to causing £200 damage to a glass door panel at the Clevedon Court Hotel, Warrior Square, on August 19. He was fined £100 and ordered to pay £200 compensation. Magistrates also made a community order with an alcohol treatment requirement.


Louise Kaukolahti (aged 41), of no fixed address,pleaded guilty to stealing meat and cheese, worth £14, from Spar, in Kings Road, St Leonards, on August 9 and a bottle of wine from Co-op in Bexhill. She also admitted to stealing a bottle of wine and two milkshakes from One Stop, in Bexhill, on September 14. She was sentenced to six weeks in prison, suspended for one year.

Adam Smith (aged 24), of Milward Road, Hastings, pleaded guilty to sending distressing texts to two women and causing an estimated £1,490 to the roof of a Mazda car at Hastings on August 12. Magistrates made a community order with a requirement to attend a domestic abuse programme and carry out 120 hours of unpaid work. They also ordered him to pay £1.490 compensation

Darren Hill (aged 44), of London Road, St Leonards, has been banned from every pub in Hastings and St Leonards for two years by the court after pleading guilty to racially aggravated threatening behaviour at Cambridge Road, Hastings, on June 17. He also pleaded guilty to assault by beating on the same day. The offences were committed while a suspended sentence was in place for a previous offence of assault made in April. He was sentenced to prison for 20 weeks, suspended for two years.
