The hotel featured in Tripadvisor’s list of ‘Top 25 romantic, luxurious hotels in the UK’ in 2015 and it was recently honoured with a César award by The Good Hotel Guide 2016.

The Sunday Times Travel magazine included Zanzibar in their Top 63 Hotels of The World last year.

Max O’Rourke, current owner, said: “People’s desire for a change of pace away from the hustle and bustle of the city means places like Hastings and St Leonards are on the rise.

“A new link road opened ahead of schedule at the beginning of the year and faster rail links to London are planned for completion in 2020, bringing the journey time down to about an hour and putting Hastings in direct competition with Brighton.

“Hastings Pier has benefitted from a £14.3m lottery grant and has risen like a phoenix from the ashes following a devastating fire in 2010. Madness played at the official opening in May and The Levellers and The Happy Mondays are already booked to play this Summer.

“The town has definitely turned a corner.”

The sale of the hotel and restaurant represents an opportunity for anyone with hospitality industry experience, or even an established operator looking to roll out a small chain
