Louise Brown-Witten, of Ferndale Walk, Angmering, is donating seven inches of her curly locks to Little Princess Trust, a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.
The 16-year-old, whose grandfather Ashley Jackson died six years ago from cancer, said: “After my grandad died I wanted to do something for him. I think he would be proud.”

He said: “It was pretty daunting, cutting a young girl’s hair, but we didn’t have to go quite as short as we thought so it wasn’t too traumatic. It’s tremendous someone so young doing something so brave for other people. As it was for my dad it meant a lot for me.”
Louise had long hair nearly all her life, so opting to cut it off after styling it for prom was a big deal.
Grandmother Angela Jackson described the moment of the chop: “None of us wanted to watch! I shut my eyes. We’re very proud of her. She was close to her grandad.”
In addition to donating her hair, Louise has so far raised £454 for the charity. Anyone wishing to give more to the cause can leave their money with Jazz Hairdressers, on Church Road, Rustington, or donate via www.justgiving.com/fundraising/louise-witten
