Look out for the Vulcan today

The Cold War jet is hoping to visit as many places as sensibly possible within the operational constraints and time available during the orbital tour, which includes Kent, Sussex, Hampshire and Somerset.

The Vulcan will fly from Ashford, in Kent, to a ‘turning point’ just north of Hellingly, flying over Robertsbridge and Sandhurst in the process.

It will then soar over East Hoathly, Isfield, Chailey, Burgess Hill, Hickstead, West Grinstead before another ‘turning point’ just west of Billingshurst. It will then head north over Loxwood and into Hampshire.

A Vulcan spokesperson said: “XH558 landed from her last flight 100 per cent serviceable and we have no reason to suspect any issues this weekend, but of course, a thorough ‘Before Flight Service’ will be conducted by the ground team each morning.

“The forecast weather is so far looking favourable, with a High Pressure system expected to be sitting to the west, which will hopefully bring settled weather over the whole weekend.

“Should either factor be against us, we will obviously review the situation, and if possible, plan to fly other sectors over another weekend later this month.”

While timings and flight paths may vary depending on weather conditions, all flights are expected to be completed during the afternoon.
