HASTINGS Lions Club has donated £2,000 to the town’s Foodbank to support its work providing food for needy people.

Roy Gaved presented the cheque to volunteers and expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the Lions Club, for the work of the project, which has fed 6,500 people since it launched two years ago, including almost 2,500 children.

Roy said: “We appreciate the contribution that the churches and other partner organisations involved in Hastings Foodbank are making to the town.”

Jeff Beale, Hastings Foodbank coordinator, said: “We are so grateful for this generous donation from Hastings Lions Club, which will help us to continue to feed those in the town who would otherwise go without.

“The need for the local Foodbank seems to be increasing as people struggle to make ends meet and find themselves in emergency situations.

“I am thankful to all of our volunteers, the churches and the public who keep generously donating food so that we can pass it on to those who are referred to us from frontline services.”
