Lifeline for homeless in Littlehampton

A WARM cup of tea, an informative chat or just a friendly ear, a new town centre base has it all.

The Ark has opened in New Road, Littlehampton, as an extension to the Littlehampton Churches Together HOMElink charity.

Manager Beth Archer said The Ark was an all-encompassing concept, which aimed to help as many people, in as many different ways, as possible.

"It is a place where the homeless can come to get access to all the services HOMElink offer. We also act as a sign-posting centre, and can point people in the right direction to get help, whether that be drug or alcohol addiction or domestic abuse.

"There are so many homeless people out there, but is an issue many people shy away from."

Beth started working with HOMElink, which helps the homeless by, among other things, guaranteeing deposits on new homes, helping to furnish them, and a regular soup run, when she volunteered at the organisation's breakfast club, at St Mary's Church.

"I was doing admin there, and I was asked to run the shop. I feel very passionate about what we are doing here, and plan to put my all into the place."

She added that the charity was in desperate needs of donations, whether it be food, clothing, furniture or time.

"At the moment, we are in desperate need of socks. If your feet are cold, you are cold, so a pair of socks can make all the difference to someone living on the street, but we are clean out of them."

The Ark is open Monday to Friday, 10am until noon, and 1pm to 3pm. For more information on the services available, volunteering or donations call Beth on 01903 725507.
