THE Lifeboat was called to help a stranded yacht on Wednesday evening (April 11).
By coincidence the Hastings RNLI Lifeboat and its volunteer crew was at sea engaged in a regular training exercise.
A call from the Coastguard at around 8pm alerted them to the vessel in trouble off the coast of St Leonards, which had three people on board, and had suffered sudden engine failure.
The lifeboat was alongside the vessel within ten minutes and a line was attached to enable the boat to be towed to Eastbourne.
Coxswain Steve Warne said: “This job was slightly unusual in that the crew was already at sea engaged in an exercise.
“The RNLI’s volunteers are always ready to go and help those in trouble at sea – it just happened that this time the Lifeboat and its crew were already there when the call for our help came in.”
